Masoyi Home Based Care Project are still waiting the outcome of three grant applications they have submitted, to fund various aspects of the work.
Most of their volunteers continue without incentive payments. The provincial government is about to finalise a budget for incentive payments to the unemployed who volunteer in the community – which should include the Project staff – but payments will not be made before June/July. They will then be back-dated to May and paid for nine months until January. This year, the Feb-April ‘lean’ period has coincided with the end of other grants, leaving many in the same state as those they serve. It is tough at the coalface.
