What We Did in 2020-21

2020-21 Annual Report to Supporters

We supported the following programmes:
House building: Our fund-raising campaigns enabled us to completed House No.6 for a 14-year old boy, and begin work on No.7 for six orphans.
Peer education: Covid-19 meant that the programme was suspended but the facilitators continued to work, mainly by monitoring all arrivals at school and checking on social distancing adherence etc. when schools were open.
Worker payments: supporting food parcels, kitchen staff, housebuilding and administration.
• Food parcels: By February, we had increased our monthly food parcels for child-headed households to 30; and had sent an additional £3,500 for emergency food parcels.
• After school feeding, at three locations, for over 200 children – four days a week at one location, twice at another, and weekly at the third.
• Office costs: towards electricity, insurance and bank charges.
• Transport for food parcels, housebuilding and peer education.  We increased our donations to cover some maintenance and repair costs.
Workshop/support group: Cancelled due to Covid-19.
Sanitary products: Continues to be funded by St Thomas’ Brampton Thursday Morning Ladies Group.
We received a total of 12 narrative reports over the year covering the various programmes; and monthly financial reports.

We were in regular contact with the CEO of the Masoyi Project and other officers
• To discuss and agree use of grants
• For current news
• For prayer topics

Summary of the other activities
1. We had three online fund-raising campaigns, to plug a gap in our general income; to provide more emergency food parcels and increase our monthly food parcels; and for housebuilding.
2. We have begun to liaise with eMasoyi to help them implement a child protection policy.
3. The trustees agreed to open an account with XE Money Transfer, with the sole purpose of obtaining a better rate of exchange on donations to eMasoyi.  It is not practical to calculate the benefit accurately, but it will be at least £500pa.
4. Our Risk Assessment policy has been finalized; and a Safeguarding policy draft accepted.
5. We held our AGM on Zoom on 10th October.
6. Mother and daughter, Hazel and Cate, continue to re-cycle old school uniforms to raise money for us.
7. We have begun to liaise with eMasoyi to help them implement a child protection policy.

8. We decided to upgrade our website so that we can have a Donate button, to make giving easier for our supporters. This was delayed as we needed a debit card on our current account to do so. [The Donate button has only just been activated.]

9. We have sent a monthly email prayer letter to our supporters, plus other news; and posted regular updates on our website, and Facebook page.

10. We received over £28,000 in donations and grants; and sent over £20,000 to eMasoyi.

Management team meetings
The management team met four times.   Audit tracking of donations to the Project continues to be improved.  The team continued to receive quarterly account summaries from the treasurer.  We agreed to fund a further house for an orphan family this year.  We continue to explore opportunities to apply for grants.    Annual accounts continue to be reviewed by an accountant without fee. This year’s accounts will need an Independent Inspection (less than a full audit) as our income was over £25,000.

How money was spent
Below is a summary of how the Masoyi Trust UK donations were spent during the calendar year 2020. Whilst these figures provide a condensed financial view of the impact, the personal stories of how our supporters’ donations are making a difference to the daily lives of people in the community are what really inspires us. You can read many of these stories in our regular news posts here.
